Kabuki Theatre scene from a famous play entitled "Yuri - Awanonaruto" by Chikamatsu depicting a young male named Izaemon sitting (left) and a standing female figure named Ohgiya yugiri (right) beautifully dressed in five colorful and elaborately designed robes. The scene entitled "Yoshidaya," is inside of a whore house with Yugiri's pimp eavesdropping disapprovingly through a partially opened sliding panel. As the story goes, the couple fell in love and the only way they could continue their relationship was at the whore house with Izaemon spending his father's money. Ohgiya yugiri was a celebrated prostitute in Japan who died in real life at the age of twenty-two.Dyptich in two panels each measuring 9 1/4 x 13 1/4 inches ( 23.5 x 33.66 cm). Matted in a single opening to 25 x 19 1/2 inches (63.5 x 49.53. A few minor worm holes at top of center of both sheets and a few pinholes at center where the prints were formerly bound into an album.
